The ASU Foundation for A New American University knows that donors want to make a difference through their generosity. Donors want to help solve problems in their communities and make the world a better place. The foundation helps donors accomplish their goals by aligning them with the innovation and scholarship occurring at ASU. Their philanthropy provides the extras that enrich education, research, and community programs.
Donors have a unique opportunity: to help create healthier communities.
Private support has enabled ASU to attract and retain faculty who are leaders in the health care industry and allowed researchers to pursue ideas that have the potential to transform health care, or to lead to the next big breakthrough in treating disease. Donors have funded research, helped build facilities and enabled innovative partnerships, such as community-based clinics or school outreach programs that cultivate a culture of health and wellness.
Examples of gifts from generous supporters that have advanced health initiatives at ASU:
- Funding from the Florence Ely Nelson Presidential Endowed Chair helped the Biodesign Institute’s Dr. Charles Arntzen develop the ZMapp vaccine, which saved the lives of two American Missionaries who contracted Ebola in West Africa in 2014. When taken to scale, ZMapp could rid the world of this deadly virus.
- Dozens of donors have provided nearly $8 million in endowed scholarship support for students in the College of Nursing & Health Innovation, alleviating financial burden for high-achieving students with a passion for providing care to others in their time of need.
- Benefactors inspired by the collaboration between Arizona State University, a world-class academic institution, and the Mayo Clinic, the internationally renowned leader in health care delivery, have provided philanthropic investments that will lead to a Phoenix branch of Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, opening in 2017.
