Designing Health Lab

The Designing Health Lab at Arizona State University considers how technology, social interactions and the built environment can be used to promote healthy behaviors, as well as how best to speed the pace of scientific discovery and translation to impact public health.

The lab focuses on the use of technology to promote physical activity and healthful eating across all levels of the social ecological model. Experimental testing of theories is conducted utilizing new methods and technologies such as smartphones and cloud computing for speeding up the outcomes of behavioral science. Center Director Eric Hekler, an assistant professor in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion, has undertaken a compelling new project called Agile Science that seeks to create an evidence-based foundation for precision behavior change, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
